Over time, the area's vibrancy has been eroded, as it gradually became overwhelmed by traffic and undermined by poor quality development.
Now, things are looking up for the Elephant & Castle, thanks to a major physical regeneration programme that is already well underway. Southwark Council is leading this programme, joined by its commercial partner Lend Lease. This major transformation will see the Elephant & Castle regain its place as a thriving destination area in London.
